A boat trip around Funchal
A beautiful place to be is the harbour of Funchal. Active drift and the metropolis in the background form an interesting counter-program to the rather tranquil (but never boring) rest of the island.
The former yacht of the Ex-Beatles. With the shackle-balloon in the background one can look at the surroundings from a height of 150 meters.
Also gastronomically, the marina of Funchal has a great offer. You can either eat on the former yacht of the Beatles, or take a meal in one of the much smaller sorrounding boats.
Sailboats in the harbour of Funchal
In the harbour, you can take the opportunity to book boat-trips of different categories. You can undertake smaller sightseeing-trips, big round-touring as well as fishing - and night-fishing turns. We were with the "Dragao", a moderate-sized motor-sailor, from Funchal to the Cabo Girao and back again. Breathtakingly, the sight of the wonderful metropolis Funchal from the sea, which`s expansion is probably only to be caught with super-mega-wide-angle on one single photo.
A part of Funchal seen from the water.
The "Santa Maria", a reproduction of the original of Columbus. You can also undertake very beautiful boat-tours with that ship.
Approach to the Cabo Girao, the steep-coast from Madeira. It is the highest of Europe and the most second-highest of the world.
Camara de Lobos, haunt of Winston Churchill. It is told, that he had painted several pictures here.
Again and again fascinating - the sight of Funchal, the capital of Madeira.
