Pictures of the Pico do Ariero
Already the approach to the Pico do Ariero, that is regarded as the most second-highest mountain on Madeira, is an experience for itself. First one still marvels at the changing landscapes, until it works steeply, sometimes very steeply upward. Very exciting. Once you have arrived above, you are rewarded with quite particular visual impressions. From here, you can turn also an extended hike to the Pico Ruivo, the highest mountain of Madeira.
The last picture shows incidentally, why you should plan the visit of the Pico do Ariero into the a.m.-hours: at noon, it is very much often clouded or foggy there. Otherwise, you have free view over the entire island until down at the sea.
